Going Green in Orthodontics

March 5th, 2010

Thankfully, for our children’s sake, we are living in an age with a renewed focus on conservation. We are constantly reminded to ‘recycle, reduce, and reuse.’ These new standards should and can be applied in all professions and of businesses.

Which orthodontist in San Diego can claim to be the ‘Greenest?’ That distinction may very well go to Dr. Ron Greenspan in Carmel Valley, CA, as we are stepping up our efforts to reduce paper waste whenever possible.

In office recycling was Dr. Ron Greenspan’s first step toward becoming “Green.” It seems fairly simple. Sorting out recyclables takes no time at all. Patients can find recycling bins throughout the office. Our staff reuses unneeded appointment slips for scrap paper to eliminate waste.

Automatic faucets have a twofold purpose in the office. Using automatic faucets helps to eliminate germ transfer at sinks around the office. These faucets also eliminate wasted water, preserving that precious commodity. Our patients never have to hear reminders to “turn off the faucet” after brushing their teeth before appointments.

One huge step towards a greener office includes going digital. All of Dr. Greenspan’s charting is digital. There are no more paper charts floating around the office and treatment area. This eliminates unnecessary clutter and reduces the need for walls and walls of filing cabinets used for storing ancient paperwork.

Most of our communication with referring doctors, patients and parents is by email. All paperwork received by the office is scanned directly into patient charts. Forms are filled out on a tablet PC. All of this effort increases our efficiently because we no longer have to search for lost paperwork. Everything our staff needs is just mouse click away. Of course, all sensitive information, once scanned is then shredded and recycled.

Dr. Greenspan believes in preserving our planet and all of its resources. He recognizes the importance of staying environmentally conscious. Recycling, saving water, and operating a paperless office are just a few things we can do to minimize our ecological footprint. Dr. Ron Greenspan may be the ‘Greenest’ orthodontist in town.

One Kid Down, One to Go!

February 26th, 2010

One kid down, one to go. And we will definitely go back to Dr. Greenspan for the second one.

Where to start? Dr. Ron Greenspan is a perfectionist. Everything from the look to the bite will be flawless before he decides that the treatment has concluded. And I mean ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS. He nitpicked over micro-millimeters with kid #1 and insisted on extra treatment (at no extra cost to me). I appreciate that kind of attention to detail; after all, why bother with expensive orthodontia at all if it’s not going to be done right.

He does not nickel and dime his patients – we decided on a price at the beginning of treatment and Dr. Greenspan stuck to that price – no matter what — to the very end. His fee was very reasonable (note: we had estimates from two other popular North County orthodontists that were higher, although all three were comparable price-wise. We chose Dr. Greenspan based on two friends’ recommendations).

Appointment scheduling was never an issue even though we had to cancel and change left and right. When a good portion of your clientele is school age kids with extracurricular activities, I’m sure it is a challenge to fit everyone in. Still, this never seemed to be a problem for this office. Appointment changes were made easily by phone, and sometimes at the last minute, unfortunately – but hey, stuff happens. Dr. G’s office seemed to understand that pretty well and always tried to accommodate us.

This may be a minor point, but I like that his office is located in a shopping center with a Vons and a hardware store. I can get stuff done if it will be a long appointment.

My kids like him and his staff. Maybe minor, but this was important to me.

And very minor, but still — he has an EXCELLENT selection of good up-to-date magazines in the waiting area (plus movies running for the kids!)

Overall, a really positive experience with excellent results. He’s not cheap, but would you really want a “cheap” ortho treating your kid? Yes, we dropped some dough, but I will happily do it again for kid #2, who deserves nothing less than the best.

Fantastic Experience with Dr. Greenspan!

Everyone should have an Orthodontist like Ron Greenspan! This experience with my daughter started very early, Alexandra was in 3rd grade when we started. She will be 13 at the end of March this year. Her braces came off today and I cried when I saw how beautiful her teeth are! The entire experience has been so wonderful.

From Dr. Ron Greenspan, his entire staff, the gorgeous office, the caring of Alexandra as a person, nothing was left to chance, nothing! I will recommend Ron Greenspan to everyone! I only wish that my own experience with braces could have been as easy as Alexandra’s. If your child or you are in need of Orthodontic care, Dr. Ron Greenspan has the latest technology, experience and staff to give you the best care that your money will ever buy. Thank you Dr. Ron Greenspan (and staff) for all your care and personal interest in our daughter. Sebastien will see you next!

Dr. Ron Greenspan Has Been Such A Joy to Work With…

I interviewed several orthodontists before being referred to Dr. Ron Greenspan. He came highly recommended from my dentist. Thank God I got this referral. Not only was the treatment short and sweet, but the quality of care was outstanding. Dr. Ron Greenspan has been such a joy to work with. I have since referred several friends and family members to him. The best selling point for me was the type of brackets he used.

They made the entire process much shorter than what I was told by other orthodontists. As an adult, the timeline was very important to me. In fact, Dr. Greenspan promised to have the braces off in time for my high school reunion, which was even more important since I hadn’t seen a lot of these people in 20 years. If you want the best, most efficient orthodontic care, visit Dr. Ron Greenspan for a consultation. You will be happy you did.

Dr. Ron Greenspan – Perhaps the Best Orthodontist in Southern California

After being recommended to Dr. Ron Greenspan by my dentist, I was pleased to find out that this particular orthodontist excelled in not only care, but in personality. Dr. Greenspan’s entire staff was highly personable and made its patients feel welcome when they came into the office. I myself highly suggest visiting Ron Greenspan if one is looking for a competent and friendly orthodontist.

Beyond the Lead Apron: X-Rays and Your Dentist

May 12th, 2009

dental-xraysAnyone who’s been in the dentist office knows that twinge of doubt when it’s time to have X-rays taken: the lead apron falls heavy on your chest and the hygienist ducks behind the wall with a remote to snap the photos. Afterwards you feel fine, so why all of these precautions for a simple X-ray of your teeth? Read on to weigh the differences between digital and traditional X-rays.

Why All of the Precautions?

Well, all types and measures of radiation can damage to body cells. While an X-ray is nowhere near as invasive as the radiation treatment cancer patients receive, radiation exposure is still at work in much smaller doses and to different effect. Though the doses of radiation you receive at the dentist are small and usually infrequent, their effect is cumulative. Luckily, experts have developed a method by which X-rays can be taken digitally, using about 70% less radiation. This technology is expensive, but is slowly being integrated into dental offices. Doctor Ronald Greenspan is one of the first dentists to bring this digital alternative into his office.

Are Traditional X-Rays Really that Dangerous?

Despite the lead apron and the hiding hygienist, traditional X-rays have come a long way in the last few decades. Older machines scattered much more radiation than traditional machines today, and the lead apron, etc., as used today is usually a state requirement and an extreme precaution, rather than a true necessity. These precautions seem to offer peace of mind to patients and workers more than anything else. Also, dentists are careful to make sure the X-rays are truly necessary, rather than exposing you to unnecessary radiation.

So What are the Benefits of Digital X-Rays?

digital-xray2The new digital method offers about 70% percent less radiation, which makes an already safe process that much safer. It is also quick–really quick. In the offices of Dr. Ron Greenspan, the images are sent almost immediately to a computer, rather than having to be developed in a dark room.

The dark room method allowed slightly more room for error, leading to a higher chance of having to retake X-rays. With digital X-rays, the results are fast, so if there is an image that doesn’t turn out, it can be immediately retaken, this time with 70% less radiation.

Beyond the Radiation, How Does This Help Me Down the Line?

A great advantage with digital X-rays is a process called subtraction radiography. Since the images are displayed so quickly, and can be electronically stored, the computer can take one of your X-rays and compare it to an older X-ray. This method marks miniscule changes that can not usually be noticed with the human eye, leading to early detection of likely problems. Ron Greenspan DDS, and other dentists who have brought digital X-rays into their office are doing their patients are taking huge strides in preventative oral care. Look for this technology becoming more widespread throughout the next few years.
